Akaroa on Saturday

Because of the earthquake in Christchurch we had an alternative anchorage at Akaroa.
We were taken ashore by 4 of the ship's tenders which ran a shuttle service to the town.
It is a very small town with a French influence, the French settlers went there. We went into town and looked around, colourful, lots of roses in the gardens and little shops selling NZ crafts.
The town is set in a beautiful bay and is quite a holiday destination. Very green all around.
We set sail again at 6.pm for Wellington. We had wonderful views from the ship of the very steep cliffs and rock formations as we made our way round the coast.
